Elon Musk’s Acquisition of Twitter
My own thoughts on why:
* Because he can: It is a billionaire thing. He isn’t the first billionaire who buys media entities. Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and countless others have done that, but usually around $190M, not in the billions. We mere mortals can’t compute numbers like $190M and $40B.
* Because he is a builder: He uses Twitter daily and is one of the most followed globally. There are product functionalities that he wants to fix that annoy him. We mere mortals accept annoying product limitations, complain about them, move on to another product, or simply don’t care. He wants to enjoy using Twitter.
* Interstellar-thinking, not day-to-day: He builds commercially viable companies that can get people to Mars because he thinks that is a problem that needs solving. We mere mortals have our day-to-day to navigate through. We don’t have the mental space or mental capacity to think universally. Not much of a point in guessing what his real intentions are.
Side Note: I question a $40B+ investment in a Web 2 asset in 2022 instead of building a Web 3 asset (metaverse, crypto, NFT, etc.) from scratch with those billions.
